Someone asked me what was the real distinction – the essence of the difference in the DNA – between high-level achievers versus the average person. Thinking deeply about it, I believe there is one uniquely consequential difference…
It comes from their approach to improvement or progression. The average person moves forward only when confronted with crisis. The high level achievers are proactive. They work on themselves and their craft before they need to. I call this proactive progression.
Imagine the possibilities…
- You just won the Pulitzer Prize for writing and you hire an editor to help you improve.
- Your marriage is going great and you work with a marriage counselor anyway.
- You reach your perfect Body Mass Index and then you hire a personal trainer.
The universe sends us a lot of wake up calls, to alert us when we need to get better. But imagine if you didn’t wait for the crisis call, and just proactively worked on getting better…
