People become demoralized because they lose the idealized version they have of themselves. Everything in your life depends on how you represent it to yourself. Meaning, the “inner dialogue” you use with yourself.
This is when you buy into the excuse that the reason you’re not doing something, is because you don’t know enough to get it done successfully. I’d estimate that at least 90 percent of the time, this is a lie we tell ourselves.
Are you holding back because it’s safer to live in a fantasy world of the perfect ideal you’re going to create – instead of facing the real work, discipline and character required to get it done?
You have to find at least a couple people you trust, that you can be vulnerable with. People you don’t try and impress with the silly facades society seems to relish, but people who are impressed with you, just because you’re you.
It’s simply astounding how much expectations determine your ultimate reality. And certainly there are lots of people who would advise you to be “realistic,” or don’t act too bold for fear you could get disappointed. They usually mean well. But that advice won’t help you lead a better life.
These kinds of relationship are difficult and require serious effort to maintain them. But ultimately, they the only ones that will make a real difference in who you become.
