I agree. People think I'm cruel when I say someone brought on their circumstances, but I really believe it. Including myself. I've been working over the last 3 years to try and adjust my thinking, to focus on prosperity rather than debt, abundance rather than scarcity. I have had some truly wonderful experiences and can look back and see the great progress I've made. My awareness changes almost daily. Life is great and I take full responsibility for mine.
Thanks, Randy, for your great posts. They always seem to be right on. I love that you say what you believe whether it will be well received or not. The right people receive it in the manner in which it is shared. Thanks!

Uhhh, do you always have to be on target and hit the nail on the head or is it a bullet between the eyes??? L.O.L.
Ok, I don't like what you are saying that I have chosen poverty as did all my ancestors, but I do know that when presented with opportunities over the years, my father in particular balked at them. I am a bit cynical myself when presented with different opps.
I am working on my belief system, I know that is part of the problem.
Anyway, great post as usual!
Take care,
Lucinda (The Opera Diva)
Ok, Randy, these are exactly the things I've been thinking about recently - I want to make sense of it all. I feel a little vulnerable revealing all of this, but what the heck, I'm all about being authentic! What I don't understand is that I once had money. Then what happened? Why have I chosen to be poor again? It's certainly not fun! I don't feel that being poor is fulfilling any need that I have - I love money! I'm meant to be rich!! So I've been trying to understand: What might it be in my thinking that has led me to where I am now? What limiting beliefs might I have? Maybe there were some more lessons I needed to learn? I think I need to order your book right now!
Yes I have an abundance of many things in my life right now (for which I am very grateful), except for financial wealth - but I did have that once. I truly want to pinpoint exactly what I need to change right now to create it all again. I keep thinking, I've been financially successful in the past - I did it once, I can do it again! And the second time is supposed to be easier & faster, right? I know it's possible. I have faith, I see it, I feel it - I know that prosperity is mine!! I know I have everything that I need to make it happen. So do I just have to stay focused on it & persevere? Have faith & know that it's coming. I think that's the answer. I know that prosperity is my destiny! I know that it's happening for me. I keep meditating: "I am a brilliant business woman! Money flows to me easily!" A bunch of stuff like that. So tell me Randy, what else do I need to be doing? I know, I need to read your book!
Thanks Randy - are you in town? If so, you should come to my "It's A Bella Life!" party tomorrow night! Lisa is coming - come with her!!! I would love to see you again & get that photo with you! The good news is that some of your beautiful prosperity has already been rubbing off on me - new opportunities are coming into my life everyday! I just need to manifest the money from them... NOW!!! I DO NOT choose to be poor anymore!! I CHOOSE TO BE WEALTHY NOW!!!!! Thank you for being you.
Love & Abundance,
Bela
You're correct.
Ok, I just placed my order Randy!!! FedEx baby!!!!!! I'm placing my order with the universe now too! I choose to be even Smarter, Healthier & Richer!!!! And I ordered your other prosperity series books too! I already feel the health, the bliss, the peace & the connection - I just need that financial prosperity part - it's the last piece of the puzzle! I'm not a victim! I'm a superstar! 🙂 I choose to be Wealthy NOW!!!
xoxo, Bela
Y'know what- I'm just not in the mood for this right now- I AM calling you out Gage....
I keep hearing that EVERYTHING is a choice, and lately it sounds like "Self-Help Horseshit" that leads to some kind of paranoia where unless your life is PERFECT, you've got some thinking defect- Horseshit. Besides, if it WERE perfect, it would be called boooooring.
IS one's whole life a choice? It might be more "empowering" to believe that, and it might sell more books and tapes and seminars, but does it hold up in REAL LIFE?
I dunno- I'm pretty sure that I've made choices, and I'm also pretty sure that some "choices" were made unconsciously- but can that REALLY be called a choice?
If there are three doors marked "a", "b", and "c", but you only know about "a", is it fair to say that you chose it? You might even know the others exist, but have no idea where they are- can THAT be called a choice?
I'm all for rooting it out and looking for, and finding the other doors, but just b/c you haven't found them doesn't mean you should be chastised for making a "choice".
I've been talking to guys about their love lives a lot since I wrote the book, and I can see that some guys don't know they can choose doors b or c- EVEN WHEN THEY KNOW THEY EXIST- they just can't see them.
For me to rail on about how they're "choosing" to be single and lonely because they want to be is just mean and... horseshitty. I could probably sell more books though by instilling some crazed "self-help paranoia".
I'm all for "You can choose NOW who you want to be based on present conditions" and all of that, but no one on this forum is going to be the best 13-year old Chinese gymnast in the world by tomorrow, I don't care HOW powerfully they "choose".
If I could "choose" anything, I would choose to be king of the empire by day, and transform into a winged dragon at night, flying over other lands and burning their villages with my breath scaring beautiful ladies until they give into my fierce animal passions.
And by "fierce" I mean wearing $1000 shirts and "Workin' it".
I'm just sayin' "lay off"; you've intimated on this blog that you've had relationships with flakey people, and you don't need someone telling you "You're choosing lonely".
Ok- I'm done. I'll get ready for the avalanche of emails.
You become what you think about. Randy you are so right on the dot! Thanks for your recommendation on Midas Mentality. I am awaiting the breakthrough...its already manifesting in many ways...
Hey Randy... you're right on! It's ok Bones, you're just choosing not to get it yet.
You rock dude.
Thanks.
I agree to a certain extent but I also see the reasoning in Bones' post. I also worry that this "you chose this" mantra is damaging for some people. Some people may beat themselves up when things aren't 100% perfect (which lets face it, is most of the time).
For strong minded folk, the "i choose" philosophy could be helpful - but for others, it could have adverse effects. Could it lead some people into self-blame/self-hate? I feel that it could be quite damaging to get into that mindset.
Thoughts anyone?
Hey Rules,
interesting post! Most of people only care about themselves and you probably won't get a shower of emails, plus everybody has his own view of things and he's entitled to it without justifying it and arguing with anybody, plus your writing makes this blog more vivid, down to earth and real. You rock, I tell you!
My own experience was such that I made the right choices and cleared my subconscious of all kinds of garbage the best I knew and was advised how, but life kept on giving me blow after blow until a couple of months ago my manual therapist told me that I work too hard and that I must throw 50% things out of my house, because they're keeping me so busy. I said my house was tidy and was skeptical but obeyed his advise and started cleaning the house from the perspecitve that I don't need so much stuff even when it is useful, costly, lovely and so nicely arranged.
I called the communal service and asked them to bring me a big container and I threw about 3 tons! of things away. The "as good as new" things I packed into boxes and sent to charity. I need not describe how my life has been improving since then.
So I'd say you are partly right, we have to look at our life very closely, from different perspectives and may find it's not just all about our choices... but still, I think I'm more on Randy's side... who probably asked you to write such stuff in his blog to make it more vivid...
All the best to all of you!
Natasa
Bones = Rules in Slovenian, lol!
I think the conscious choosing comes during enlightment at some level. Once you understand that you've been programed, and that you didn't actively choose that programing (your parents and environment as youth), choosing becomes easy. It's the accepting responsibilty for EVERYTHING in your life that is hard to swallow.
AS for the self-help BS- I am excited to see humanity going through- no longer being faced with, but actively being pushed towards- evolution. Today you either get "it" (that you can actively choose your life's results) or you stay on the hamster wheel until you do get "it".
BTW I got "it" and am still working on removing the limiting programs and beliefs. They didn't just show up over night, and they may take a few weeks to release:) Either way- ITS ALL GOOD!
There is something I must tell you!
This Guy - i mean Randy - saved my life. He is NOT a Guru, but he knows something, that works.
I have some of his stuffs... absolutely Lifechanging.
I was struggling years after years. I've been working so hard. And then somebody told me: "Miklos! You must work harder on yourself, than you work in your job!" That was totally ridiculous for me at that time. I thought that was real bullshit... so... I continued struggeling another some years :)))
And then... something broke in me.
There was no way out, I had to face what Randy said: "Is there one person who was always at the scene of the crime?" - and because my life was totally empty I must have said: "Yes... I choose to be a victim" - 'course not consciously, bot on a subconscious level.
First I started to analize myself, and me beliefs. I've spent almost one month to write all of my beliefes about life, and myself. So I had a map to myself, and my unhappy reality.
Next step was... I started to change my beliefs.
It really works well, but you have to work on yourself every single day 🙂
And now I can say, I am on my way.
Thank You Mr. Randy Gage 🙂
God Bless You All,
Have a Nice, Happy and Prosperous Life 🙂
Miklos
Great post and basically I think it means we have to all take some responsibility for where we are in life because somewhere down the road it was the choices we made then that got us to where we are now...! Such as not looking into opportunities to build a residual income stream(s) despite having heard it so many times from financial experts and people with proven track records for helping people reach the success they so richly deserve! People like Randy Gage...!
Lajon Webb
Honestly people ... so much of life is based upon choice that Randy HAS to be right ...
what he is saying (and what Bones missed) is that "choosing" to be poor means "choosing" to do nothing about your situation and blaming everything else ...
that's it
Thanks again Randy ... I do take it personal and am "choosing" to be RICH
E
Wow;
So many different points of view on the comments board today I guess you really did hit the nail on the head!
Poverty consciouness is just as real as the Prosperity consciouness is. The difference often is that those of us brought up with a certain conditioning don't realize it until somthing in our life expereince is so extreme it forces us to take responsibility and take a long hard look at ourselves.
It is in working on our inner self rather than the outer appearance that we connect to all the patterns that have been secreatly working it's thing in our life.
The trick here is to override that conditioning but until we are honest with ourself about what's in our life, and why we just keep creating more drama changes don't occur.
It's obvious from your articles that your an old soul here to teach, thanks 🙂 I enjoy how your questions stimulate the thinnking process.
All the best
Olga
Bones,
Keep the faith!
Life has been and always will be challenging. Read Charles Filmore's Prosperity book and contemplate it. Randy's 30 day tape series is good too.
Roll with life, make wise choices. God Bless!
Dave
I hate to admit this but sometimes I feel superior! I see people making choices that are obviously not good for them, but who am I to say? I am certain I make choices too that others who are more highly evolved can see are a disaster. I have to go through it first to see their point of view. As for those choices I don't make because they are hidden from me, well are they really choices?
I have never done this experiment and we all have heard it about the glass you can insert in a fish tank which cuts the tank in half and the fish bang into it for a while but them become conditined so that when you remove the glass they remain in half the tank. I look at my beliefs like that glass; limits on my total experience that I may not know are even there, but understanding there are these invisible boundries in our lives is enough to make me concious that I might be shorting myself of life's total experiences.
So, I don't see this as self help BS at all but truly a challenge to get out of my own way. At the very least, it occupies my mind with more positive, can do thoughts to battle those constant weeds of doubt. So thanks Randy and thanks too to Bones for a perspective that I often share. It's good for me (and it's all about me!) to read the thoughts of others who think that way.
Alan
Wow great discussion.
Lucinda I have spent years overcoming the poverty consciousness that has been handed down in my nations's DNA.
Bela - yep I too once had loadsa money, it all got taken away from me and I was stripped down to absolutely nothing and rebuilt from the inside. But guess what? I'm still not loaded and please don't tell me I need to do more work on myself, I have spent years doing that and the affirmations and clearing the clutter and making better choices and I am still not where I want to be!
Bones - I don't think you've missed the point at all, in fact I think you rock, you have made some very valid points.
If you tell a person who may have massive guilt issues/patterning that it's their fault, that is only gonna make them feel worse not better.
I don't know what the answer is, all I know is that I keep on keeping on hoping for my big break one day.
Have a great weekend folks!
Randy,
Is your wealth a result of having mastered direct marketing? I am not sure that merely working hard is what determines wealth.
You are an authority on direct sales and marketing and I tend to think that your expertise on this subject is what has made you financially prosperous.
Correct me if I am wrong. Since the world is full of hard working people who are dirt poor.
Best,
Hi Bela,
I hear ya! Randy is a great teacher! I'm like you, I'm getting the other stuff done, now I just really need to work on the financial aspect. It's been a rough road but I know I am on the right one, going in the direction I want to go.
Take care love and abundance to you!
Lucinda (The Opera Diva)
Randy: Love your style - direct and to the point. The problem is many leaders/trainers/educators/speakers speak to the "have-not's" as having a poverty mentality, but don't quite succeed in changing the mindset they embrace so one can embrace the new mindset.
Reading books, listening to webinars is a great beginning, but learning how to attract and accept money is a bit more of a challenge. My point is that just 'thinking" about it doesn't help us get to more $$....the big challenge is this: What can we do to help re-condition our thinking to think in abundance and not scarcity?...now there's a best seller!
Thanks for all you do for so many - great seeing you at NSA this year....
Terri Murphy
Yes, being broke is a temporary situation but being poor is a way of life.
And they are hard working and dirt poor by choice.
Bones you write:
For me to rail on about how they’re “choosing” to be single and lonely because they want to be is just mean and… horseshitty. I could probably sell more books though by instilling some crazed “self-help paranoia”.
>No, I do couples therapy and it's the truth. It does take 2 people to have a relationship and both people have to choose to work on the realtionship if they want to stay together but so many people get frustrated and choose to get a divorce. You can choose to be a fun, loving guy or choose to put the FUN back into dysfunctional. Over the years I've had couples admit that they spent more time planning a vacation then they did dating and getting to know someone before they walked the isle and before God and those in attendance proclaimed "until death do us part". Personal responsibility is such a drag isn't it?
I waited half a day to reply to this. This is copied directly form my blog .....
So first thing this morning I read this. Perfect. Just what I need to help me on the way back. Well it’s pretty clear that Randy Gage can be outspoken, and I only discovered the guy 2 weeks ago, but sometimes you can do without the “motivation”. I started a scathing reply right there on his blog, but thought twice and didn’t let it go any further.
I used to feel exactly like he does. Everything was down to me, and it was real easy to blame people for their own inadequacies (or indeed misfortune). But sometimes telling someone that his situation is entirely of his own making isn’t the best course. I am definitely of the opinion that it’s a lot better for people to figure that kind of thing out for themselves.
I’ve come to realise that sometimes the choices we make are not entirely our responsibility. Stress and sickness, are 2 examples of how these choices are sometimes effectively made outside of our control.
Having said that, here’s my real issue with Randy’s post. It had an effect on me. All day. I’ve been feeling shitty since I read it 12 hours ago. It hit a spot with me. But worse than that. I allowed it to affect my day. I allowed the ramblings of a total stranger to influence the kind of day I had. Shame on me. Maybe it's not always the choices we make that are the reason we are where we are, it’s the ones we fail to make.
Thanks Randy ... (I think)
I have been an avid fan of yours, ever simce i saw your in like a needle out like a plough approach in your "Escape the Rat Race" Audio CD. However once i read your prosperity series, and subsequent Why your Dumb Sick and Broke, it blew me away and made so much sense, and i have been on quest for more ever since...
The principles just it home for me in so many ways. Thank you so much for being so BLunt!
I beleive what you have said in this post, and i can understand the frustration arround it from many of its readers. What is it, why cant we just quit being that victim and choose to be a victor? What is it that we are holding on to for dear life... Still trying Randy!
Keep it coming... 🙂
Dear Bones, fess up. It hurt to hear the truth and it is easier to do the "denial & I'm feed up victim of life" routine than to reflect on your choices, we are always at choice, you must have known that because your last line was "Ok- I’m done. I’ll get ready for the avalanche of emails".
Some choices are easier than others, go to work and earn money (sometimes in a job we hate) or go live on the street. A gunman says your money or your life, then a choice has to be made. Who said life was easy or hard, its a choice. Opportunity and wealth is a choice. Good luck (if you need it) Bones, oh sorry that could be a choice, all the best Geoffrey
Randy, I think for many people it is worse than choosing poor. Every choice, even when there is only one, leaves all the other options alone. That is the nature of choice. A vs B vs C ... pick one and you can choose again something differnet.
A decision on the other hand, like incision, has the root to cut or eliminate. Once you decide to be poor it is a hard and long road to anywhere else. ... flip the switch and choose you the destiny of your choice not circumstance!
Thank you.
You are so right Randy. Thanks!
I choose from this day forward to have wealth and abundance in all aspects of my life including money!
God Bless!
I'm going to go out on a further limb here, and say that even though many have read a lot of his books, and bought plenty of his materials, not a single person reading this blog has anywhere near the financial prosperity that Randy does.
Therefore, as a teacher, Randy sucks.
Why is Randy "choosing" to be a sucky teacher?
Love, one of your biggest fans.
Interesting.
Can one choose not to be a douchebag? Case in point, can one choose not to express douchebaggery towards the less fortunate when hawking their patent medicine Ponzi scheme?
Descartes weeps.
Wow! I must say this is the most interesting post I have seen and would like to make a small comment, (hope it is small) 🙂
After many years of overcoming disappointments, struggling, trying harder and being more positive, I am now enjoying and loving myself, despite the absence of wealth.
No one can show me the way to success as I feel what I have can not be taken from me. That is what I call success. I can't follow another, as it never seems to fit my beliefs.
I sometimes wonder why I read these blogs, as it is time consuming, but I do believe it is because I needed to hear how unperfect we all are. :-).
Thanks, Bones, for having an honest reaction, and not just being a follower. Most of us can never be a Randy, as that is who he is, and I don't want to be him. I just want to be the best I can be. as the Lord sees fit!! 🙂
oops!! Imperfect, not unperfect.
OK, people with fragile ego's will have a very difficult time hearing the message that is present. Bones, onew thing I picked up from your post, is your references to instant change or choice...if I chose to be a doctor and went to bed and woke up this morning disappointed that I am not a doctor, then I am delusional. However, if I woke up and am convinced that I "have the doctor in me" and call the medical school to get my application, then I am, in fact well on my way to being the think I chose.
I think one of the bad/misunderstood things about choice is that there is no work or effort involved.
wealth or poverty a choice? hmmmm? on this i have to disagree to a certain extent....
yes, i do agree that their is an unconscious affect and decision going on... bbbuuuttt i have noticed that self-sabotage is not so much a choice as it is a result of limited vision (to make a long story short)
take a look at a certain person's life (well actually i have met many people like this but lets just look at one)
i am not talking about average joe and jane, i am talking about driven, focused and motivated rick and martha.... i have seen them believe in success, study success do the steps to success and belive, affirm and do the right steps to acquire success on many levels. i have seen them follow diligently more so than others that have accumulated success in less time. i have seen rick and martha learn to manifest realities with such precision and accuracy you'd think it was truly a miracle, i have seen them over come illnesses that doctors have ruled out and written them off... and yet time and time and time again the monetary wealth, the lifestyle, the luxury eludes them.
in my opinion from what i have seen of these types, they are walking living breathing examples of success, and abundance with one exception, they do not have the money they need or want.
i have witnessed former ricks and marthas make an ever so slight shift in their ideals and morals and begin to follow less and less of the success principles they believed so much in and begin making money in avalanches of abundance. like deepak chopra talks about pay less attention to one goddess and the other one showers you with wealth and riches to get your attention.
they go on to lead lives of luxury and wealth beyond their wildest expectations, they never breath a word of the line they crossed to get there, and still to this day they speak so much of the principles of L.O.A. but know that is not the key to their success.....
but for the average joe and jane, teaching the principles and concepts is good, and it keeps the planets aligned and spinning in the right direction, but it will not and does not create the wealth they are looking for in their lives.
at this level it is not so much about focus or manifesting as much as it is about entitlement mentality.... lawsof success and attraction are not so applicable and cut and dried....
hi Randy
I'm all in you...
I think that it's not important where you live or what your occupation is, it's important to choose the right way in your life, focus on your targets, optimism, happy fate, health, happiness and wealth and make a plan to reach your targets, and thanks God for our properties and prosperity. in this way of living I think that we attach good things and we have a prosperous life.
best regards.
Hi,
This is random but I noticed you're using Aweber's blog broadcast...have you seen http://feedmailpro.com? You might like it.
Hope it helps,
Brian
You're AWESOME! Love the ATTITUDE! That made my day....way to go gal!
Tony
Thanks Randy for this post.
As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Poverty mentality is the mother of all poverty.
I think what you're saying is right. That's not at all what I was talking about.
You can "choose" to want to be a doctor, but what if you don't know that you need to go to school? You're not becoming a doctor.
Would it be fair to tell you "You're not a doctor b/c you're CHOOSING not to be"? I don't think it's fair.
I am excited by this post and everyone's feedback and can't wait to hear Randy's reply!
I am not wealthy! I struggle each day to make ends meat! However, I am not a victim nor do I have that mentality. Obviously there are a great number of "things" that I don't know how to do and many "things" that I don't like to do, and some "things" that I just wont do!
What I'm getting from Randy's challenge is that I need to explore these "things" and make damn sure that I don't NEED to do these things and verify that the "things" that I'm doing are needed!
It is football season again, & I coach kids in the area. One of the sayings I have adopted early is; "If it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger!" I need to lead by example with this saying, and really evaluate what's going on. Get in tune on a different level with my actions.
Joe

Kiera Brinkley, a quadruple amputee since the age of two, received a week-long stay at Julliard with help from a nonprofit organization in Oregon that helps sick children live their dreams.
The student volunteer who worked with Kiera made a statement about her that should be an example for everyone when she said, "She's not her amputations. She's Kiera--lovely and happy, strong and vivacious Kiera."
Let this be a lesson to each of you---you are much more than your "issues," whatever they may be. Surpass and realize that no matter your circumstance, you can create beauty, goodness, and joy within yourself and thus within your life. Read the article, watch the video, and be grateful for what you DO have instead of focusing on what you do not.

Randy Cage: Your are absolutly right!!! I hope ti meet you in agel world!!!
hi Bones,
I've read your comment with curiousity whilst thinking it over carefully, i can understand where it comes from .
Although i have a question for you;
3 years ago i had a carcrash on a saterday night , i had to go to a bbq i didnt want to go to and i was exausted from working and wanted some days of (which was impossible), so what happend was that during the day i repeatedly said ' oh my god i dont want to go to the bbq, if only i could find a reason not to' and at the end of the day saying goodbye to my team i said' well im not coming on monday' (thinking i was joking.
I went home , got a shower, got dressed and left in my car to the bbq, after 10 minutes of driving i was hit in the back of my car , was trown against the car in front of me and made a 180 degree spin. I was able to get out of my car, feeling dizzy and little bit of pain in shoulder. Thinking i was ok , but had a check up in hospital, had xrays taking and was send home with painkillers and the message i could work on monday. The reality however was that come sundaymorning i couldnt move anymore, was unable to get out of bed and even with help from my husband couldnt stand straight up without falling over. To shorten the story i was unable to work for 8 months and didnt get to the bbq and as result of it had operation in april this year 3 new intervetrebal discs and 4 vertebrae fixed together.
So how do you look at this ?
It certainly made a believer out of me, that you can choose, i got exactly the result i wanted, no bbq , no work for several days(months).
So i have a message for everybody , be carefull what you asked for , you might get it !
warm regards
Nicole
Wow some really great comments here and I'm excited to see the discourse. Some interesting points raised. I'm writing the next post and should have it up later today. Watch for it.

I had met too many people who do business with poverty mentality. they complain a lot, they blame past and present situation. i had heard a lot about the greed people who have money. I had seen problems in my country based on prosperity because they wanted money a lot, complain, going for drinking, not perfecting the value they created.
So what I choose, perfecting my value I created that makes sense for anyone, make a money. And It is hard for the first time. I am amazed when I know what principle of prosperity, I choose to do it.
dude i am with you up to the winged dragon at night thing and scaring beautiful ladies....
would it be better to be yourself at night but with a cool batman winged dragon thing going on and a super cool dragon shaped jet so they ladies will swoon and give into you and stead of scaring them as a dragon?
its your fantasy, i'm just asking.. i got lost at that point...
peace out
Randy its so easy that its so difficult!
I find that most people believe that something easy and simple can not be prosperous. Most believe that "a lot" of anything, can't be attracted with a little bit of something.
If a person's main belief is prosperity = hard and difficult, they will never be able to attract it unless they take action to change their belief.
