Unlocking Prosperity in the New Year

Posted By: Randy GageDecember 31, 2024

New Years is a great time to examine and evaluate how your life is going. But like anything, the way you do this can dramatically alter whether the result is great or terrible.  Unfortunately, most people place way too much weight on the cultural concept of what makes life worthwhile...

In your great grandparents’ time, a good life might have been defined by having babies. Maybe in your grandparents’ time, the ideal was conforming with religious dogma. Perhaps for your parents, it was about status and earnings.  Those metrics were bullshit then and they’re still bullshit now.

But what metrics are you using today?

  • Having better Christmas decorations than your neighbor?
  • Hitting a certain number in your bank account?
  • Getting more likes on your Instagram posts?

The number of emotional issues people face because of fear of being judged is astounding. If you find yourself strongly fearful of judgment, that’s a clue that you’ve been building your life on what others think of you.

And that’s no way to evaluate the last year or plan for the next one…

If you base your happiness on how other people feel about you, you’re destined for a life of misery.  (I know this because of having so many Happy New Years turn into Miserable Old Years myself.)  I used to evaluate how successful the year that was ending was by how much more I had earned, the exotic cars I bought, or the increase in my followers on social media.

I’m not embarrassed to admit that to you.  That’s who I was at that point in my journey and the lessons I learned along the way brought me to where I am today.  It’s all in the game…

The good stuff gives you some satisfaction. The bad stuff gives you the breakthroughs.

These days I approach New Years with a different approach. It’s not so much about resolutions as resolve.  I’m more interested in the big picture idea: What do I need to release, to become a higher version of myself?  For that reason, my tradition is to conduct a “burning bowl” ceremony each New Years. (And another during the year of I feel like I need it!) If you’re interested in conducting one for yourself, here’s a video explaining the process:

You can spend New Year’s Eve trying to drink or drug away your sorrows and make noise to scare away your fears. Or you can celebrate the lessons you learned in 2024, build on them, release the things that are no longer serving you, and replace them with things that empower you.

So here's my New Year’s Wish for you…

Set your intention for the New Year not about what disappointed you in 2024 – but who you want to become in 2025.

Peace,

- RG

  1. Hey Randy!

Thanks for sharing this ritual again! This will be the second time I’ll do it, and I absolutely love it. It helps me put things into perspective, commit to taking action, and focus on building the new version of myself—always with love, compassion, and growth mindset.

  2. It seems that letting go is closely related to replacing. We need to find something new that brings at least no less pleasure than the destructive habit or thing we are trying to get rid of. This requires clear criteria (or filters) to make a list of alternatives worth implementing. Leaving a vacuum in place of what you’ve let go of shows that no suitable replacement has been found. It looks like a block taken by own will. Hopefully, such self-imposed asceticism won’t harm a person but instead encourage them to reevaluate their belief system and move to a new level of growth. It's necessary to study the laws of prosperity to understand this process better.
The stuff with flames and burning is weird a bit. Why not keep both parts of the paper to reflect on how far you’ve progressed... A letter-reminder can serve as a great follow-up step to help you stay on track until the new behaviour becomes second nature.
