Success and the South Beach Club Scene

Posted By: Randy GageMay 23, 2025

It’s often useful to think in analogies.  So, in that vein, think about success like a nightclub here in South Beach, or Studio 54 back in the day. There are always three ways to get into the club...

Entry method one.  That’s where all the people seeking permission from others line up behind the velvet ropes.

Entry method two. That’s the secret entrance that 50 Cent, Madonna, and the tech billionaires get ushered through.

Entry method three. That’s the loading dock, or the door next to the dumpster, where you help the busboy dump the trash or slip him a twenty to slip in through the staff entrance.

Never use method one.

Peace,

  1. Love this! I spent my whole life playing by the rules and waiting patiently in line, seeking permission from others about everything. For now on, it's option number three! Thanks so much Randy.

  2. Ha, I love this. Richard and I talk about this all the time. There's always a "third line." We aren't doing 1. We get we're not going to be in line #2, like ever. But #3 we can work with!! 🙂

  3. It's all about attitude. The number of times I've just walked backstage without being challenged because I looked like I belonged there.

  4. Celebrities in the club (2) embody success. They serve as bait, attracting the "desperate souls" who long to sneak in (3)—either to uncover the truth behind the velvet ropes or simply to take a selfie. But as the books teach, true success isn’t found in shortcuts. Meanwhile, those who patiently wait in line to be allowed in (1) often spend meaningful time with the company they came with—or connect with new people they meet along the way. I’m for the lawful, patient approach. Getting ushered through feels more like being unsaved or just going to work.
