I knew Dr. No, my wife got the Dalai Lama and John Travolta's a guess (we didn't get "Kotter" over here). Oh and that question mark ? Outside - for sure.
Everything else is just guesswork. "Millionaire" will never be the same after this lot.
Wow, I'll try not to let my ego get too blown up by the fact I stumped at least 35,000 people on this! It was a lot of fun. So here are the correct answers:
1) What famous scientist began with developing a process to sterilize wine? Louis Pasteur
2) What is a group of apes called? A Shrewdness
3) Over 270 waterfalls converge at this spot. What is it? Iguaca Falls, Brazil
4) What land animal spends most of its time in water, and actually suckles their young underwater? The hippopotamus
5) Kazuo Ishiguro is the author of what famous novel? The Remains of the Day
6) What reptile feasts on snails, slugs and caterpillars, and has smooth overlapping scales which contain small plates of bone? The Australian botched blue tongue lizard
7) What was the title on the first movie featuring Bond…James Bond? Dr. No
8) What was used commercially for the last time in March, 1995 in Chesapeake, Maryland? Morse code
9) What was unique about Olympic gymnast medalist George Eyser? He had a wooden leg
10) What Greek philosopher born in 469 BC was later convicted of crimes and forced to drink hemlock? Socrates. A lot of you got this.
11) In what sport would you perform a Randolph? Trampolining
12) What animal fights charging each other, and the female have been known to combat for over 25 hours? Bighorn sheep
13) A decibel is 1/10 of what? Bel, the measure of sound intensity
14) Who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1953? Sir Winston Churchill, the same year he was knighted.
15) What small animal roams the open plains of South Africa and South Angola, and can kill snakes with a well-placed bite to their neck? (Yet is often kept as a house pet in South Africa!) The Meerkat. (Don't you guys watch Meerkat Manor?)
16) Who wrote the theme song for the Pink Panther? Henry Mancini
17) What is a Ringelmann Chart used for measuring? The density of smoke
18) What country is the city of Godthab in? Greenland
19) What herb did Siberian citizens paid their taxes with in the 17th and 18th centuries? Garlic
20) What is arctophily more commonly referred to as? Collecting teddy bears (If you got this one, you have way too much time on your hands!)
21) What piece of music nearly caused a riot at its debut in Paris in 1913? Stravinsky’s Rites of Spring
22) Who said “Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast?” Anytime you hear an amazing, yet snarky comment, you're always safe to choose the author of this, Oscar Wilde.
23) What famous humanitarian was born in Skopje, Yugoslavia (Now Macedonia)? Her birth name was Agnus. Mother Teresa
24) What was the title of the first “talkie” feature film? The Jazz Singer
25) “Tug of War” was an Olympic sport between 1900 and 1920. True or false? True
26) What spiritual leader’s name translated means “oceans of wisdom?” The Dalai Lama. Thanks for those of you that guessed me, but Randy Gage actually means, "universes of love, light and brilliance." And humility.
27) Does that question mark on #26 go inside the quotation marks or outside? I wish I knew! I was counting on you guys to tell me unequivocally.
28) Which opera – that today is one of the most beloved in all the world – opened to horrible reviews and the composer died of a heart attack within weeks, thinking it was a abject failure? Carmen. It was trashed by the critics. Bizet got very sick and stressed the opening week and he ended up dying of a heart attack.
29) What is the only airline to offer a shower on its airplanes? Emirates. Long time readers of my Rants will remember me writing about my shower at 35,000 feet.
30) Who were the three vocalists in the group Three Dog Night? They were Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron and Cory Wells. The group is touring again with Danny and Cory.
31) What is the correct term for a baby bat? A pup
32) What was the only record to reach number one on the charts for Johnny Rivers? The Poor Side of Town. And I think this says a lot about the poverty mind viruses abounding. Of all his hits, this was the only one to reach number one.
33) What planet did Luke Skywalker travel to when he first met Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me? Dagobah. And if you're a real Sci-Fi fan, then you know that Yoda chose here, so he could live near a cave strong with the dark side of the Force which balanced out his light side and kept him from detection by Emperor Palpatine.
34) How do the official rules of baseball define a check swing? This was a trick question. Check swings are found nowhere in the official rule book. It's just an accepted practice not sanctioned in the rules.
35) In the hit television series “Welcome Back Kotter,” who played the role of Vinnie Barbarino? John Travolta
I hope this was as fun for you as it was for me. And it's good to work out your brain cells. Tomorrow we'll be back on the path of prosperity.

In Persian, in situations like this we say :
اسکول کردی ما رو؟
Sorry, I couldn't find any translation for that
And yeah, we had fun too.
Thanks
Well, I don't know if it's a GOOD thing or a BAD thing that I knew very few of those.
As to your punctuation and quotation question, I was taught that punctuation goes inside quotation marks. Regardless . . .
Fanfully yours,
Joanna :o)
The question mark goes outside as the entire sentance is a question, not just the bit in inverted commas.
it really would help if I spelt properly - should be sentence - sorry!
By the way - must tell you sometime why and how Emirates was started as I was there at the time. Just goes to show what you can really do when you have almost unlimited funds!
John, please do tell...inquiring minds want to know! Interesting people you're connected with, Randy!
