A Thanksgiving Postcard from Dagobah...

As most of you know, I’m currently on sabbatical on the swamp world of Dagobah, one of the purest places in the galaxy. Here amid Dagobah’s abundant life, I’ve sequestered myself from the world of social media, narcissism, and virtual signaling – to commune and speak with the spirits of Qui-Gon Jinn and Yoda – pondering the connections between the living and the Force. Back in the homeland of my birth, this is the day of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanksgiving is a day set aside every year since the Pilgrims came to America, to celebrate and give thanks for the blessings in life. So, I’m sending you this postcard to thank you for being part of my journey along the way. Even though I’ve stepped back from the blogs, newsletters, and podcasts, please know you are in my thoughts daily. I feel tremendous gratitude for the interactions we’ve shared together on our journey of challenge, adventure, and growth.

Holidays can be a sad time for many. If you are one of them, please accept this postcard as a digital hug from me, with hope that the day lands gently for you.

Let us be grateful for those we have lost, knowing their memories are a blessing.
Let us be grateful for struggle, knowing there is great beauty in it.
Let us be grateful for the wars in the world, knowing they can teach us the path toward peace.
Let us be grateful for our challenges, knowing they are our steppingstones to greatness.
Let us be grateful for death, knowing that it teaches us how to live.

Please celebrate this holiday (whether it’s Thanksgiving where you live, or simply another amazing weekday) as the day it and every day were meant to be. Another opportunity to rejoice in gratitude.

Peace,

- RG

Validate Yourself

(Monday Mojo 9/11/23)

Thank God it’s Monday!  Let’s get after it…

As you go into the week, do yourself a favor and stop chasing validation from others.  That's empty calories.  The validation you really want is approval from yourself.  That's self-esteem.

Perhaps my biggest breakthrough was realizing that the person I was going to spend the most time listening to in life was myself. (That voice in my head.) The person you're probably going to spend the most time listening to is that voice in your own head. Do what you can to keep their respect.

Terrible Lighting. Important Message. Check out the new pod:

Previous Post: The Drug of Cynicism

The Drug of Cynicism

(Friday Filosophy 9/08/23)

Happy Freakin’ Friday!

Each Friday, I send you a postcard with some homework for the weekend – usually a question, topic, or challenge to contemplate. This week let’s explore whether cynicism is hurting your prosperity.

Perhaps the biggest legacy of former President Donald Trump – and there have been many – is the profound distrust and cynicism he created not just in his followers, but many others as well.  People no longer trust pretty much anything: the Department of Justice, FBI, media, hospitals, Secret Service, science, court system, insurance companies, local police, school board, election system, or their local baseball team's beat reporter.   There is now profound, pervasive, and overpowering suspicion of governments and institutions in general.

You can certainly argue that many of these entities and institutions have done things to erode our trust. They are all staffed by people, and people are frequently guided by emotions, bias, and self-interest. The goal is to have guidelines in place so as a whole, the institutions don’t fall prey to the whims or manipulations of a few.  Most of the time this works, but there will always be breakdowns.  We should be skeptical of all governments and institutions.  But while skepticism is healthy, cynicism is cancer.

Now we've reached a collective state of hyper-cynicism that's rotting our social structure...

Because cynicism is like battery acid on your brain.  On the surface this new reality is portrayed as draining the swamp, casting out the villains, or shining a spotlight on corruption. In actually, the cynicism has run amuck, fueled by clickbait journalism, social media, and the datasphere.  But in actuality, this cynical distrust of everything is anti-prosperity.  It causes fear-based behavior, tribalism, and endless negativity.  You pass up wonderful opportunities to manifest more prosperity, whether in the form of businesses to launch, investments you could make, or relationships you could enjoy.

Once you start down the rabbit hole of cynicism, it can become difficult to get back above ground.  Being cynical always makes you feel right, because you can doom scroll through social media and find another "gotcha" to prove your theory that everyone and everything is corrupt.  Cynicism is a mind-bending drug.  It makes you feel like a genius when you're actually a fool.

The Hype Distortion

(Monday Mojo 8/28/23)

Thank God it’s Monday!  Let’s get after it…

Some, but not many of you, are old enough to remember when we got news by newspaper, a day or two after it happened.  Just that brief time lag provided a hidden benefit:  We didn’t think every calamity was going to end the world, because we already knew the world had survived.

But today, in this age of 24-hour cable news channels and social media platforms desperate for attention…

Every possible chance is taken to frighten or anger you, convince you to click the bait on the catastrophic disaster they want you to believe threatens your existence at that very moment. As you begin another week, be mindful of this racket they're playing on you and choose not to participate.  Same thing with all those emails and text messages that may have piled up from work over the weekend.  They distort your view of the world and it can affect your mood, self-esteem, and confidence.  Even cause you to make decisions that are harmful to you.

Take a breath, turn off your devices when need be, and focus on a solid productive path for where you want the week to end up.  You'll have a greater chance of getting there.

Defend Your Prosperity Consciousness

(Monday Mojo 8/07/23)

Thank God it’s Monday!  Let’s get after it…

Welcome to another week and another chance to move toward your dreams.  And the best way to do that is to surround yourself with other dreamers.  The trouble is that there's so much clickbait rage, fear, and negativity coming from the data-sphere you can get sucked into it.  Be mindful.

Defend your consciousness from the dream stealers the same way you'd defend your home against intruders.  Set your intention, put aside daily self-development time and other positive people will be attracted to you.

Give Yourself Some Grace

The Upside of Down Times

Hello from Orlando,

As I mentioned in the newsletter, I'm here conducting my TRIBAL event and I just discovered a new book from Lisa Ryan.  The whole name is: The Upside of Down Times: Discovering the Power of Gratitude. Lisa is here at the event, and we were discussing her book. I thought it's just the kind of book you could appreciate. So if you want to know how gratitude could improve your prosperity, check it out here!

The Science of a Prosperous Life

(Friday Filosophy 7/14/23)

Happy Freakin’ Friday!

Here's your weekly postcard from me with a question, topic, or challenge to contemplate.  This week let’s explore the idea of thinking like a scientist.  Not so you can get a research grant but to better manifest a prosperous life.

To do this topic justice, we need to delve into how you respond to new or different ideas.  With the levels of polarization happening today, and the mental manipulation being practiced on you from marketers, governments, and the datasphere – you're likely closing down the potential avenues for accepting new ideas.  Much worse, you then could identify with one dominant idea that becomes your worldview.   If that happens, it leads you down a pathway that is in a 180-degree direction away from a prosperous life.

The most anti-prosperity person is the one with one idea, because they enter a bunker siege mentality and will defend it to the death.  A good scientist values criticism and pushback from others and is always willing to question any premise. A great scientist will have 100 ideas, fervently hoping they each of them offers a breakthrough, but knowing full well that most (or even all of them) will be wrong.  They test hypotheses one after another, eliminating each one until they reach the closest possible version of the truth.

Scientific progress come with the audacity to question and test things – and the humility to let the results teach you.  And I'd argue that living a prosperous life works in the same manner.

Peace,

- RG

P.S. If you want bonus reading on how allowing an idea to create an identity can harm your prosperity, read this post.
