(Friday Filosophy 5/12/23)
Happy Freakin’ Friday!
Welcome to another issue of Friday Filosophy, my weekly postcard to you, where I suggest a question, topic, or challenge to consider. This week let’s explore optimism.
Optimism is one of the secret weapons for many, many areas of prosperity. Study the power of the placebo, or the medical studies done on terminal patients with optimistic beliefs and you’ll discover pragmatic evidence to support the theory that optimism produces healthier results.
Look in the sports, arts, or entrepreneurial worlds, and you’ll see the winning edge that optimism provides. History is littered with examples of people with immense talent, skill, and potential, who never reached that potential because they were too pessimistic. Pessimistic people see too many imaginary risks and fear the worst case outcomes too strongly. People who approach an achievement with a higher confidence in success are much more likely to attempt great things. People who approach an achievement with a defeatist attitude are easily dissuaded and give up too soon. Make sure there is an element in your personal growth routines that exposes you to people, podcasts, blogs, books, videos, etc., that help generate more optimism in your worldview.
