Happy Freakin’ Friday!
Welcome to another savory edition of Friday Filosophy – the weekly postcard where I challenge you to think about what you think about. Today why don’t we explore some of the thought processes that lead to success and prosperity. My “go to” traits are the holy trinity of curiosity, discipline, and discernment. Let’s look at each of them…
Curiosity should come as no surprise, because it creates the passion for learning. Growing up poor instilled me with jealousy and bitterness toward rich people. That subconscious programming (that I had no idea existed) led me to repeatedly self-sabotage my success. Somewhere along my self-development path, my jealousy about wealth transformed into curiosity about it. When I got curious about how people became wealthy, I realized there was no need to resent wealthy people because I could become one.
The most intellectually developed people are usually the most curious. If you want to grow and develop, you must maintain your child-like curiosity about the world around you. Now just being curious is not enough, however. You also need the second trait, discipline.
Casual curiosity will lead you to investigate things that have superficial interest for you. That’s a positive step because it ignites a spark of learning. But learning of real substance requires discipline. Discipline gives you the initiative to go deeper – to study things that may not seem as intriguing at first but offer you potential for great breakthroughs. No one ever had a major breakthrough in their comfort zone, and you won’t be the first. Breakthroughs – prosperity or otherwise – come from stretching your brain around fresh concepts, gaining knowledge, and developing new thought processes. But just being exposed to enlightening material is not enough. You must employ the third trait, discernment.
Intelligent people realize everything presented to them (including this blog) comes shaded with some bias. When you’re exposed to new information, you must process it through your powers of discernment. This means the ability to form opinions by objectively evaluating the information presented to you. That process involves questioning the premise, evaluating the source, and thinking about what bias or motives that source may have. This ability is what allows you to make good judgments.
And that leads us to a bonus trait, one that can enhance the benefits of the first three. Sometimes you have to see the world in a totally different way than the masses and be a contrarian.
Far too many people today are going through the motions of life, existing but not really living. You can’t think like them or you’ll end up being like them. Don’t be afraid to act contrary to what everyone seems to be doing. In fact, be concerned if you’re not.
My phone blew up this week after the new podcast episode went live. People were fascinated by the topic – The X Factor for Prosperity. Check it out and see what you think!

Previous Post: Change the World!
Loved this Randy ... I grew up in a small village in the UK - #Wargrave - which had 'opposite poles' in close proximity. Our Family was the 2nd poorest in the village in the 50's/60's (I found out later) but most of My Friends came from the Rich End. I got on very well with the families, always being invited for 'Dinner' (Which 'we' called Tea-time 🙂 .... The thing is - I 'never' developed that bitterness toward the Rich - Infact I found Myself 'Constantly' defending them amongst My Peers ... And On Forums Now! .... I find it rather SAD that the 'New Rich' appear to have lost their compassion and empathy for the poor - Especially the Politicians and (some) Billionaires who see Joe Public as their Meal-Ticket to FURTHER their Own Careers /Agenda's regardless of the consequences to the Rest Of US! .... Just a thought! 🙂
It's exciting to hear of your younger journey and how you navigated the gulf between the poor and wealthy societies. Your phrasing about the "new rich" and "(some) billionaires" is a little concerning that you may be becoming infected with some anti-wealth programming now. Might be something to study. As always, great to see you here! -RG
Abso-freakin'-lutely BRILLIANT once again, Mr. Gage!
Coming from the Count of Critical Thinking himself, I'll receive that praise with deep honor.
