Beware of False Positives for Growth

Posted By: Randy GageMay 13, 2019

Last week I wrote about the need to be willing to let go of your old story, if you want to live a prosperous life.  Unfortunately, just releasing an old story doesn’t guarantee success.  Because you can create a false positive...

I went through a progression of addictions (drugs, gambling, alcohol, sex, etc.).   Each time I dropped an addiction I declared myself victorious and cured.   But these were false positives.  In reality, I was simply substituting one addiction for another, never addressing the underlying causes of low self-esteem, worthiness issues, and imposter syndrome.  Which is the psychologist’s way to describe hating myself and running away from that self-awareness.

You and I have to make sure we don’t simply release one negative story and replace it with another limiting one.  We have to be mindful and proactive to ensure the new story is an empowering one.

How you doing on that?

  1. What if everything we choose is an addiction? What if that's okay? You candidly reveal how broken you were. Your pain drove you to the heights of achievement. And, I imagine it still drives you. You've channeled your turmoil and transformed it like an alchemist. Would the world have Randy Gage as an inspiring role model if you weren't bent out of shape in the first place? I'm a good actor. I excel at playing nefarious characters. Because I'm a tough guy? Hell no! It's because I walked the Bronx streets as a youth constantly terrified by the mob guys and thugs in my hood. I won their trust and admiration by entertaining them. I became a storyteller, and a damned good one, out of anger and fear. So be it. Art and artful living, I believe, are masterful ways of bleeding with elegance.

  2. Keep em coming Randy. Your short blogs have a powerful impact on my thinking.
By the way. When is the book being released re: social media

  3. Love it RG! The trick is taking your pains and downfalls and instead of replacing one with another. But to take that energy and turn that pain into a lesson to create your personal superpower. Coming from that place of pain to learning how to overcome it makes you stronger. For you it was drugs, alcohol, etc. for me it has been weight, once I figured out the discipline and how to drop the weight, I’ve been able return to those disciplines when needed and share my story with others. Thanks for your Jedi guidance and friendship
